Hey, I'm Helen.
I'm sixteen years old, and my dream is to become a fashion designer.
That dream seems impossible at the moment, since all I can do is draw. I am terrible at the sewing machine. And after two years of practice at school, I don't think I can sew a straight line.
(Unpicks are very useful for me)I am currently in Italy for a student Exchange, duration is one year. Already nearly halfway into the year, I can only speak a little italian. =(
To be honest, I prefer icecream over gelato anyday, so I don't understand what the hype is about it, in Italy.I came to Italy to rediscover my true passion for fashion. Since, I felt like I was losing interest, as in the last school project, I took a long time to finish my garment, and the grade was only achieved.
It's scary how I spent all my childhood dreaming to become a fashion designer, but only when I'm older I reconsider this choice. It's hard to throw all those dreams away when you think you may have lost the passion. I don't know I guess, Fashion is more about the individual; less than the trend that is IN at the moment.
In Reality, the finishing garment and the original design can be two different things. The fabric/material makes a great difference, and frankly; I don't think I can make the correct decision. When it comes to choices, I am very indecisive, or very greedy.
And I don't understand clothing patterns. AT ALL! I was the kind of person who didn't understand the fuss of cutting out paper patterns. I was the kind that thought it was okay to cut two holes in a fabric, on a straight line for sleeves. Hey, it was way easier that way. =p
Success is a light that most undiscovered designers are struggling to still see. They can catch glimpses but not enough to brighten the darkness. To be honest, I don't think I have what it takes to become a designer, it's not probable for me. I have the creativity, but cannot coordinate my hands to make what is on my mind. Besides, the design will constantly be changing, because nothing is ever good enough as it is. There is always alternations, to the point where I rub the paper raw. I'm a perfectionist with drawing sometimes.
Even though saying that I know I won't make it big as a designer..... I still want to go to Central Saint Martins to study, heck, I've even worked out all the prices for accomodation+fees for a whole year. And it's expensive if your not living in London, or your national currency is significantly lower than the pounds. =( Which is both for me!
The thing about fashion is that, you have to get connections to the fashion industry to make it big. Either win competitions (the hardest way, unless you have RAW RAW TALENT, you have minimal chances) Or depend on the industry connections. The Fashion Colleges are there to help you: Apparently, Parsons, FIT and Central Saint Martins will be able to give you connections to the vast fashion industry. And getting into Parsons is hard, rumors say. Probably having that name on your resume will make you look exceedingly good to any employer out there.
Some key pieces never go old, and it's the styles that flatter the body that don't. Skinny jeans probably won't since, they're the most versatile and easiest to match up with footwear. No offence, but bootlegs or flared out trousers don't exactly suit heels or boots the best. XP
Enough with my rambling... If you've read up to here, well you have a lot of patience >> Which is a virtue I don't have unfortunately. Got the attention span of a five year old.....

- Shopping of course!!! Drawing/designing/sketching/ sleeping, eating, computer, internet, television progams, reading. talking, socialising, drawing on the beach =D, And Writing!!!! I love writing and reading romance stories, so wattpad is one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE SITES! Though, I can't stand fast plots, where the relationship goes all (I LOVE YOU>YOU LOVE ME) in two or three chapters. It's unrealistic., Oh and photoshop!!! I am only good at one thing on photoshop. Shamelessly, I admit it is swapping people's heads onto different bodies. The outcome is always hilarious, hence I always do it when I have the photos there. Am I the only one that finds it amusing?, Shopping is a problem for me! I like it too much! People usually say I'm crazy when I go shopping. WHich is actually true because when I find a shop I like, I can spend hours in it. I take like a huge stack of clothes, go to the changing room, come out, and then take another huge stack in. This is the routine. But in the end, I feel inclined to buy something, because it's really embarrassing trying on twenty pieces of clothing and walking out emptyhanded., Clothes, I can never get enough of....I think I should join S.A (Shopaholics Anonymous), I also love shopping on the internet. Living in a small town in the bottom of my country doesn't benefit much, with no malls and little shops, it is very small. SHopping online gives you the freedom of purchasing from international retailers or styles. Which is always great, because you know your wearing something that is different. I haven't been scammed yet, on the internet. So all that internet safety stuff, I'm not caring, at the moment.
