Fashion question for a new young designer!

If someone could please answer me this question. I would really appreciate it. I am wondering what designers use to make clothes on, like in project runway they have those mannequin type statues to drap and free form design on. I am not sure what they are called and I am looking to buy one! Also if you could tell me where I could get one that would be great!

Actually what a lot of people do [since buying one can be very expensive] is to wear a cheap old t-shirt and then to ducktape themselves around it so that it forms a perfect mannequin of themselves and then stuff it with newspaper.

The correct terminology is:

The correct terminology is: dress form

Industry standard is a size 6, since that is what all sample and runway pieces are(and why models need to have specific measurements for the runway).

A professional dress form can run anywhere from $300-800, but it is best to make sure it has the lower cage attached to it. I bought mine at pgmdressform.com, but there are many other sites to look for them. Just google dress form, and a list of vendors should generate for you!

I hope this helped!
