Center Stage 2.1

The World Around You

Go outside and take a picture of something that inspires you. you can also use a picture you took in your last holidays if you don't have a camera right now.The important thing is that you took the picture and that it's not something you got off the internet.

Once you have that, look around your room and pick one object. Take a picture of it as well. After that open the door to your wardrobe (or wherever you keep your clothes) and blindly pick out one piece of garment. Take a picture of it as well

All three things will be your inspiration. The picture will determine the overall mood of your looks and the object will influence another part. The garment will inspire you by its color, pattern or style for example.

Once you have all these three things together I want you to sit down and create two looks.
One should be a daywear outfit fit for the season (the season is whichever season it is right now wherever you are). The second can be whatever you like.

I'd also like you to submit your inspiration pictures so we can see what influenced your work and that you met the requirements of the challenge. If you don't want to take a picture of the garment, please discribe it to us. It would be nice if you added your personal thoughts in the artist comment as well.

So here's my entry piece for Center Stage, ElysianSkie's (one of my all time favorite designers other than rednotion) design contest sponsored by the Fashion Design Group here on DA.

Ironically, I'm also about to do my application design for rednotion's contest , and if you haven't noticed, I'm a contestant in faith-npp32's Fashion Fever contest... BOY am I going to be busy this year XD

I want to appologize in advance for the crappy quality of the picture. Mom bought a new computer and we can't get the scanner to cooperate with it so I had to use her camera to take a picture of the designs, which completely butchered to colors. As this computer doesn't have a professional art program, I can't fix the epic failness of the image.

Anyways, onto the design. I created the two looks that were required. I went with a casual buisiness outfit for the daywear design, and an elegant evening gown for the second design.

My mood inspiration was my "Symphony No. Two" Picture, which has actually been featured on my page for a while now. When I read the challenge, I instantly knew it was the image I wanted to use. Taken in winter back at the beginning of 2009, but not posted until September of the same year, I had moved it from my stock account to this one in October so technically it still counts.

You can see the inspiration from this picture in 3 different areas mostly. The most obvious is the colors, the second being the boning in the dress and the bird clips bunching the swal together. The third place is the marbled colors on the inside paneling of the dress and the cotton shirt on the daywear design. Overall I feel that the colors set a mood very similar to the picture.

I was very lucky in the end when I chose my second inspiration. Not really thinking how I was going to use it, I chose my lava lamp that I have had for ages. Unlike most of them, this one is a bit thinner, and a shiny silver color. Very modern looking overall. The inspiration from this shows in the fact that I chose to do two very classy looks, along with the over all shape of the designs.

As lucky as I was with the first two picks, the blind garment trick really threw me for a loop. As I share my closet with my sister, having moved back in with my parents, the clothing choice in that closet is very.... widely ranged to say the least. Unfortunately for me, I picked this hideous purple preggo shirt (as I like to call them) that my sister adores. The only thing I really used this as inspiration for was the top for the daywear design as I liked the wide straps.

Another piece that factored into the design was the birds from the original picture. When I think of birds, I think of freedom, therefor I kept the fabrics loose and stretchy, or used types of fabrics that would glide over your body rather than stick to it, while still keeping with the tightness that modern designs feel.

Since these designs had to be for winter, I also added a simple, asymetrial poncho for the daywear instead of the traditional suit jacket to go with the slacks. Though I added a shawl for the dress, the poncho could be worn with it as well.
