If you don't get schooling it'll be even more difficult. Fashion schools give you something valuable that you generally can't get anywhere else unless you're lucky and work your whole life at it and then some. Networking and connections. These are vital for getting anywhere in the fashion field. It's one of the hardest industries to get into and even harder to stay in once you're there.
I was lucky when I scored the internship with Jennifer Lilya last month. I was lucky when I was introduced to Nicole Moan thanks to my boyfriend. I was lucky when my cousin suggested me to Anya Slutskaya of Skin Tight/Scar Tissue Clothing. I cannot express how lucky I was. But other people are not as fortunate and even though I have 3 very important connections, I need more. I need the schooling and the networking and connections that come with it.
My own advice for picking a school, DO NOT RUSH THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS. I got screwed over by the Art Institute of Pittsburgh because of it and am currently fighting them over costs and charges because they left out valuable information. Pick a school that feels right to you and has an honest background. Talk to people that attend that school for degrees related to yours and see how they like it.
Yeah I agree with Q here. Also, I've heard a lot about the Art Institute Schools. A lot of people have been saying that they're scammers who gives you worthless degrees.
I'm having trouble uploading a design into my portfolio on here. I've tried a hundred time for the past few days and all I get is a fatal error page or I upload it on the submit design page, but it fails.
Hi Kat! That's interesting. Could you tell me what type of image file you're uploading as well as its size and name? Also have you tried to log out and back in to see if that solved your problem? If you don't mind then could you email me a sample of the designs you're trying to upload to sketchbloc@gmail.com ?
